Context c644 corresponds to the lowest layer reached in the sondage opened on the northern side of the wall c601, by the end othe 2023 excavation season. This sandy silt layer distinguished by its whitish colour and its massive bedding. Based on the field information, it appears to correspond to the natural subsoil of this sector. It is truncated by pit cut c640 (filled by c639) and by another possible pit or ditch c645 (filled by c643). No testing was carried out by the end of the 2023 excavation season.
[Original notes from the context sheet : Whitish soil without any artifact. and was cut by C640 at southwest corner next to C601 and at the north limit was cut by C643. IN 2023 SEASON DID NOT EXCAVATE]
