Interpretation

Context 625 corresponds to a layer located beneath the clay and mud structure c601. It is characterized by its grey to dark grey colour, ashy  nature with numerous charcoal inclusions. During the excavation, it was initially interpreted as a posthole, as were the nearby contexts 627 and 628. However, after excavating the entire sondage, it became clear that these three contexts, slightly disturbed by animal burrows, form part of the same stratigraphic unit, which has been interpreted as possibly a preparation layer for the clay and mud wall c601, based on the current state of research.

Only a few pottery sherds were retrieved from the small portion excavated in the sondage.

[Original notes from context sheet : c625 is a posthole next to the wall (c601) which used to be a round wood stick to strengthen the wall. The diameter is about 0.40 m abd ut us vetween c627 and c628 which are the other posthole next to the wall. The soil is soft and powdery. The soil between c627 and c625 is quite brown chich is similar as c601. It is supposed to be the same material as the wall. After excavated, it is a layer with lots of charcoal. The colour of soil is gray and ashey. It is a layer in c616, but not a posthole and connect with c628. The layer is also the same as 628, 627.]
