Gribshunden

A small pile of bones near the edge of the pit

Context 621 corresponds to a small assemblage of human bones blended with loose soil, found near the southern edge of the pit, close to the right upper arm of the skeleton,  and extending onto the inner side of the outer layer of cover stones (c618). This deposit includes a long bone and ribs, which may have belonged to the skeleton c623 (possibly part of the arm and right ribs). Therefore, the interpretation of this deposit remains unclear. Rather than being a deliberate secondary deposit or secondary burial, we currently suggest that it resulted from bioturbation (animal activity). However, osteological analysis may provide further insights into the nature of this remains.
